The Schoolroom Giclée print by Vanessa Bell

72 x 61cm (unframed)

£225

In many ways this is both quintessential Bloomsbury and closely representative of Vanessa Bell’s work: the colours are strong, the patterns bold, the décor of a type Bell might herself have designed for the Omega Workshops.

This print was initially commissioned by Robert Wellington and John Piper for their second series of Contemporary Lithographs. Theirs was a venture which sought to offer work by acclaimed artists to places not known for their expenditure on art – to schools for instance. The school room depicted here is perhaps of a type not widely recognized, but it portrays the kind of place that Vanessa Bell, who was home educated, and who started a small home school for her own children, would have known. (Original size of image: 46.4 x 61.9cm)

This print is authorised for publication by the artist's Estate and has a seal of authenticity embossed onto the white paper margin. It is from a limited edition of 850 and is hand-numbered and hand-embossed. This print has a typed caption running along its paper border. The caption indicates permission and authorisation from the artist's Estate, and from the museum or gallery holding the work. The caption will be concealed by a mount when the print is framed.
