The red tablecloth (2025) Original Oil Painting by Jean-Pierre Walter

39.5 x 23.3 x 2cm (framed) / 33 x 16.8cm (actual image size)

🎨 A still life that will captivate you with its elegance, accentuated by its black frame. The chiaroscuro technique here is precise, creating the illusion that Chardin’s timbale blends completely into the black background. Created using a grisaille technique covered with thin layers of transparent paint called “glazes,” as the masters of the Dutch Golden Age did, you will nevertheless notice that when viewed from the side, the outlines of Chardin’s timbale are clearly visible. I don’t often mention it, but this painting is truly one of my favorites among my recent works.
