The Migrants (2021) Original Oil Painting by Tomas Stanaitis

This painting is a medium-sized work executed in oil on a hand-primed canvas with a coarse texture. It depicts electric public transport scooters arranged in the sky. The painting is signed by the artist on both the front and back. An authenticity certificate is also included, along with a list of exhibitions where the work has been shown.

The piece was created as part of the series “Presence of the city”, which, together with other works from this series, was exhibited in Lithuania between 2021 and 2023. The idea to depict scooters in the painting came to me while riding my bicycle around my hometown of Kaunas. Quite often, I encountered situations where scooters were left in the middle of bike lane, toppled over, or abandoned in parks and other places. They were everywhere. With a irony, I imagined that they were only missing in the sky, which inspired me to depict this situation in the painting.

Technical Details and Style
The work was painted on a hand-prepared primed canvas using oil paints. The painting employs a cool color palette with visible brushstrokes. The composition is centered, drawing importance and attention to the “heroes” of the painting – the scooters.

Shipping Information
To reduce shipping costs, the painting will be sent without a stretcher, carefully rolled around a cardboard tube, wrapped in soft material, and packed in a rigid cardboard box to prevent damage.

Note: Upon delivery, you will need to take the canvas to a local framing shop to have it professionally re-stretched onto a wooden frame.
