The Hen, from Unfree series (2023) Original Mixed-media Painting by Anastasia Pavlovskaya

42 x 51 x 6cm

£1,338.53

This piece is part of series The Unfree, a reflection on human freedom and the invisible boundaries that shape our lives.
Over time, habits, ignorance, fear and limiting beliefs — whether our own or imposed by others — can become as real as walls.
I painted the figure inside an old wooden window frame and placed a found metal grid in front of her, making the physical structure part of the work's meaning. Old forged nails and traces of time remain visible, carrying the memory of another life.

The small window becomes a symbol of our limited view of the world — we see only a narrow fragment of it and may never feel the need to look beyond.

The hen has wings, but she does not use them.

Materials used:

A found window frame, old plywood, acrylic paint, varnish, old grid, hand-forged nails, wax
