The Distance Between Tides is an original contemporary blue abstract seascape painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. I created this painting inspired by those rare moments when the sea seems to hold its breath. I wanted to capture the feeling of looking toward an endless stretch of water, where shifting light transforms familiar shapes into something mysterious and almost dreamlike.

Soft layers of powder blue, misty grey, silver, icy blue, and pale turquoise flow across the sky, meeting deep horizontal passages of midnight blue, navy, charcoal, and blue-black. Delicate touches of white suggest sunlight dancing on the water, while subtle warm brown accents bring depth and contrast to the cool palette.

Using palette knives and brushes, I built the composition through layered acrylic paint, sweeping diagonal gestures, scraping, and expressive horizontal strokes. Fine vertical drips and delicate linear marks introduce a subtle geometric rhythm.

For me, this painting is about the beauty of distance—the space between what we see and what we imagine. Its calming blue palette and dramatic contrasts make it a distinctive statement piece for modern, minimalist, and coastal-inspired interiors.
