SYNTAX - Holding Space (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Amrish Malvankar

"Holding Space" marks an important milestone in my practice as my first tondo painting. Working on a circular canvas was both unfamiliar and fascinating. The absence of corners altered the way I approached balance, placement, and spatial relationships, encouraging me to think differently about how forms interact within a contained field.
As the painting evolved, I found myself less concerned with directing the composition and more focused on allowing it to settle into its own rhythm. Rather than moving from one edge to another, the eye circulates, returning inward and creating a sense of continuity. This experience became the inspiration for Through the Lens – Tondo Series, where each circular work becomes a focused field of observation in a contained world inviting closer attention.
