Abstract etching. An original artwork created by Lizzie Butler.
Inspired by the fluidity of nature, this piece encapsulates the energy and power of the natural world. The depth created by layered forms instils a sense of passing through, reminiscent of moving through waves or trees.
To create this etching, I have worked with a steel plate, which has a rich texture, creating a sense of depth in the printed image. At each stage of the design, the plate is dipped in acid, which 'burns' small pits in the surface of the steel, thus 'etching' the design into plate.
To make each individual print, the plate is smeared with cyan ink, which is then gently rubbed and buffed according to where you would like the ink to remain. Damp Somerset printmaking paper is then laid on top of the plate, which is then passed through the printing press.
The three prints available for purchase are from an addition of only 25. The plate is inked and printed by hand for every print in the edition, which means that there are slight differences between each print. As a result this makes each print a one off original.
Each individual print is numbered, titled and signed.
