'Sunset over the Fields' Linocut by Layla Khani (aka Laylart)
14 x 14cm (unframed) / 10 x 10cm (actual image size)
£70
Artwork description
Sunset over the Fields is an original hand-pulled reduction linocut inspired by the rolling farmland and layered horizons around the Malvern Hills.
Sweeping fields lead towards distant hills beneath a warm evening sky, with bands of ochre, green and blue creating a strong sense of depth and rhythm. I wanted to capture that short moment at the end of the day when the landscape is still lit by the last warm light.
I created the work using the reduction linocut technique. Each colour is printed from the same lino block, with more of the surface carved away between every layer. The process continues until the image is complete, leaving a fixed edition that cannot be reproduced again.
Sunset over the Fields is from a limited edition of 12. Each impression is individually inked and printed by hand, so subtle variations in colour and texture are part of the character of the work.
