I lugged my equipment to this spot, high above the Columbia River Gorge, on a sweltering August evening. I could understand the shapes and composition I would paint, but could not predict what the sky would do at sunset. So I did a rough sketch and waited. And waited. And sweated in the heat. Finally the sky started to become exciting and I started painting furiously. All to capture this peaceful moment.
