I have to admit that sunflowers, with their large blooms and vibrant golden-yellow petals, were never among my favourite flowers. Although they embody the height of summer like almost no other blossom, I always found them a little too dominant in a vase. That remained true until last year, when I created an entire photographic series dedicated to sunflowers. Immersing myself in their beauty, I had no choice but to look at them more closely. And what can I say? I fell in love - quite unexpectedly.
Sometimes, it turns out, there is something deeply rewarding about letting go of our own preconceptions. The flower heads are especially captivating when arranged without their petals. Stripped of their signature radiant yellow, they take on an almost sculptural presence, their stillness feeling ancient and elemental. They invite you to lose yourself in their quiet presence, until you can almost feel yourself becoming still along with them.
