Scottish Highlands, photgraphed in 2017.

A steep, near-symmetrical mountain peak rises sharply and dominates the frame, its flanks a patchwork of tawny golden grasses, dark exposed rock and patches of moss — the vegetation having taken on the warm, faded tones of late autumn. The summit darkens toward its rocky crown, which dissolves quietly into a heavy, pewter-grey sky. To the right and slightly behind, a second softer peak emerges from the mist, a subtle detail that draws the eye and adds quiet depth to the scene.

In the foreground, a broad sweep of open moorland stretches across the full width of the frame. Here the eye settles on small, isolated moments — individual stems of heather, a patch of pale frost-bleached grass, the slight texture of the boggy ground — details that in another landscape might go unnoticed, but in this stillness demand attention. The vast, unhurried expanse of the moor makes the mountain feel not threatening, but immovable — ancient and calm.
The palette is muted and earthy: warm amber and straw in the dying grasses, cool grey in the sky and exposed rock, deep chocolate brown across the moorland floor. The flat, diffused autumn light is even and shadowless, neither harsh nor dramatic, allowing the landscape's quiet power to speak entirely for itself.

All of Gary's work is captured full frame, exactly as the scene appeared. Nothing is cropped, nothing is manipulated. What you see is what was there.

Each print is made entirely by hand in Gary's own studio, on Hahnemühle Photorag archival paper — chosen for its exceptional tonal range and environmental credentials.

Every stage, from camera to finished print, is carried out by Gary himself. Never outsourced. Always personal.
