Original artwork description
Painted in 2012, Spring belongs to an earlier period in Mher Chatinyan’s work. His characteristic freedom is already present in the broad brushwork, simplified forms and confident use of colour, while the painting retains the immediacy of his earlier figurative works.
A woman’s face fills the composition, framed by deep blues, turquoise and green. Warm passages of coral, yellow and pink move across the face and the surrounding space. The raised hand adds a quiet, inward gesture. Rather than illustrating the season literally, the painting suggests spring through colour, renewal and movement.
At 80 × 70 cm, the work has a strong presence without overwhelming a room. Its textured surface responds especially well to soft side lighting, which brings out the layered brushwork and shifts between cool and warm colour.
