Skyward Gaze (2026) Original Oil Painting by Paul Cheng
35.56 x 45.72 x 1.52cm (unframed)
£298.95
Original artwork description
I wanted to capture the brief and beautiful transition between autumn and winter—a moment when fresh snow has already covered the valley while the remaining orange and red foliage still glows against the cold landscape. The sunlit cliff and open sky create a sense of distance and light, while the winding stream carries reflections of the mountains, trees, and sky through the composition. I used simplified, directional brushstrokes to describe the cliffs, evergreens, snow, and water, contrasting cool blues and soft whites with warm oranges and earthy reds. Changes in edges, color, and reflected forms create depth while expressing the poetic meeting of two seasons.
