This painting was created by painting the model, Shadia, online. While she was posing, her nosey cat came over and was in view next to her for a while to get in on the action. Shadia chose the pose herself, which I think worked very well for the painting. Sometimes, the best poses come by just letting a model choose it herself, and not trying to control everything about it. One of the things that I value most about a specific pose that is chosen for a painting, is for it to look natural and not forced. Leaving it up to the model, or being able to recognize something good and telling her to stay still when she isn't actually trying to find a good pose, are sometimes the best ways to achieve this. I like that she appears to be thinking about something, pondering, considering, wondering. And I have to wonder, what's she wondering about? Painted in oil on an aluminum composite panel - a beautifully smooth surface - and signed on the back by scraping my name into the metal rather than adding it in paint.
