An “expressive” ink drawing, captures a young figure lost in quiet contemplation. Rendered entirely in energetic blue-black writing, and layered line work, there is a sense of emotional depth. The downward gaze and slightly turned posture, suggests introspection and melancholy, while the swirling lines creat a visual metaphor for inner turmoil or the complexity of thought. The raw gestures building form through frenetic overlapping strokes gives the work a restless almost anxious energy contrasting with the figure’s stillness. A collared shirt with visible buttons is suggested through the same vigorous mark-making blending the subject into the emotional atmosphere. I have drawn on the emotional intensity of early 20th century expressionist artist. What thoughts lie behind the shadowed face.
