Sapphire (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Diannah Lowry

42 x 42 x 2cm (framed)

£350

This painting 'Sapphire' is part of my Bejewelled series of paintings. While sapphires come in a vast spectrum of colours it is the classically blue range that are my favourite. As with the other works in the Bejewelled series, the inspiration came from a visit to Carnac, where I found a shop with an Aladdin's cave of beautiful mineral jewellery and polished stones. I spent as long in the shop as I did exploring Carnac's wonderous standing stones! I loved the light and the transparent quality of many of the polished stones, their luminescence and layers of different colours.
Sapphire is know for its toughness, so along side the use of transparent acrylics in the chosen colours in this painting, I have emphasised the edges of the shapes to give it texture and depth. Like my other works in this 'Bejewelled' series of paintings, this work was a joy to paint!
The painting is framed in a white frame and is glazed with non-reflective art glass.
