This painting was created en plein air in a small German town. The roses were growing on a gentle hillside in the town park, overlooking the rooftops and streets below. Although the day was overcast rather than sunny, the muted light made the colours appear especially rich, deep, and vibrant. Capturing this atmosphere became the main focus of the study. The slightly dramatic sky adds a subtle sense of tension and mood to the landscape.

I enjoy observing nature directly and painting from life whenever possible. This small panoramic study was completed quickly and spontaneously in about an hour. It is painted with bold, expressive impasto brushstrokes that give the surface texture and energy. The painting has been finished with a glossy protective varnish.

As an alla prima study, the work retains the freshness, vitality, and immediacy of the moment, preserving its unique atmosphere.
