Ripe Light (2026) Original Pastel Drawing by Iryna Kindrytska

I drew her one afternoon with the radio off.
She's reading, or pretending to. I couldn't decide, so I left it open.

Her head is a red circle. Her face is half orange, half mint. I gave her a very long yellow arm because it felt right, and the book in her lap is the hottest thing on the page.

The blue behind her is almost too loud. I kept it anyway, because the quiet parts needed it.
I've drawn nudes for years, and lately I've stopped wanting them to look "correct." So her shoulders are too wide and her body is lilac. Nobody asked me to fix it.

I work in soft oil pastel, layered by hand on thick 250 gsm paper. You can see the grain of the paper through the color, and a few of my fingerprints. In morning light the blues glow. In the evening the orange and red warm up.
Picture it by the chair where you read, or above your desk, where it catches your eye when you look up from a screen. It's meant for a corner where someone sits and takes their time.

There is only one. Once it finds its home, it's gone.
