Original artwork description
This bold mixed media portrait explores the concept of human identity, vulnerability, and resilience. At first glance, the striking silhouette stands tall and powerful with hands on hips, projecting an image of absolute confidence and inner strength. However, a closer look reveals a surface intensely marked by scratches, abrasions, and deep layers, serving as a powerful visual metaphor for the internal scars and complex experiences that shape who we are.
Drawing heavy inspiration from contemporary punk energy, street art, and afro-futuristic aesthetics, this piece bridges the gap between structured portraiture and emotional abstract art. The rich, visceral background dominates the composition with textured layers of crimson red and hot neon pink, while sharp, sudden streaks of electric cyan blue cut through the darkness like raw charges of energy. By physically applying and then intentionally scratching away layers of paint and graphic patterns, the surface takes on an urban, weathered quality—reminiscent of eroded metropolitan posters. It is an exploration of the human armor we build for the outside world versus the beautiful, complicated mess we carry within.
