Inspired by a collection of orchids in a window of a local house, Red Orchids depicts two flowers emerging from a deep background, suggesting the way in which we overlook so many beautiful plants and flowers in our local environments, in particular in city settings.

My pieces are built up with multiple layers of oil glazes using minimal pigments and tones, culminating in a velvety surface interrupted with purposeful, smooth brush strokes. The boldness in this piece is made up from just five pigments, carefully blended and layered to create the richness and smoothness of the plant.

This piece was pre-selected for the NEAC in 2023.
