“A Quiet Shoulder”
I painted this work from life at the Hutsul Land Ethno Park. I wanted to creatively reinterpret an ordinary scene from the life of a chicken coop while also touching on a subject that is especially close to me and to many Ukrainians today — sleep.
Because of constant nighttime attacks, including drones and ballistic missiles, we often have no chance to get a proper night’s sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation is gradually becoming part of our everyday lives.
That is why I depicted a hen who has fallen asleep, resting against a rooster. He stays perfectly still, trying not to move so as not to wake her and to let her finally get some rest.
For me, *A Quiet Shoulder* is not only about sleep. It is about care. About having someone beside you with whom you can finally relax and feel safe.
Because someone who protects your sleep truly cares about you.
