Glowing tangerines emerge from deep blue shadows, creating a vivid contrast of warm light and cool depth.
This tangerine still life is created in a mixed technique combining watercolour and dry pastels.
The process begins with a watercolour underpainting, where deep blue shadows establish the structure and atmosphere of the composition. The surface used is professional “Pastelmat” paper — a durable, moisture-resistant support that allows for layering water-based and dry materials.
Over this foundation, the forms are developed with soft pastels. The contrast between the cool blue background and the warm orange tones of the fruit creates a vivid visual balance, while the textured application enhances the tactile quality of the surface.
Part of a growing series of tangerine compositions, this work explores variations in light, colour, and form within a simple subject.
Works can be displayed individually or as a cohesive group.
