Original artwork description
Alienation — The Keeper of Silence is an abstract figurative mixed-media painting by Gela Mikava from the Post-Alienation series, exploring psychological fragmentation, identity and the human condition after emotional and social disintegration.
A solitary, faceless figure stands divided between opposing internal states. Contrasting chromatic zones split the body, while expansive linear gestures radiate outward like invisible forces acting upon it. The absence of facial identity transforms the figure from an individual portrait into a symbolic human presence.
The work examines the psychological space that remains after alienation — when identity becomes unstable and the body carries traces of internal conflict. Silence here is not emptiness, but a state of suspended tension: the figure remains present while its boundaries and certainty begin to fracture.
Created with mixed media on linen canvas, the painting combines figurative abstraction with expressive gesture and a layered contemporary surface.
At 80 × 100 cm, Alienation — The Keeper of Silence has a strong visual presence while retaining an intimate psychological intensity.
