I often walk around the Serpentine in Hyde Park and enjoy boating on the lake. I wanted to paint that experience as a dreamy memory. I bought a boat many years ago and spent time paddling and drifting along the river Wandle through a National Trust nature reserve. It was quite idyllic and felt like a safe way to be alone in a river bank setting. So for me this image evokes the whole experience of floating, bobbing in a sunlit vista.
