Parachuting Beaver (2026) Linocut by Laurel Macdonald

I love the story about the parachuting beavers after WWII. Fish and Game had a lot of parachutes, and McCall wanted the beavers gone, so Fish and Game dropped them from parachutes (in boxes) into the River of No Return. Great story and weirdly enough, it's true.

Now, with the fires around Idaho, Fish and Game, other agencies, and scientists from a variety of fields, have all concluded that our beavers can help restore our rivers and create natural firebreaks. Beavers to the rescue!!

I drew this image onto linoleum, carved out the negative space, printed the raised surface onto Strathmore paper, and then colored it in with watercolor and gouache.
