I see the autumn hills of Val d’Orcia in Tuscany as a landscape slowly surrendering to the light. The ridgelines recede into a veil of grey-green mist, while the fields below open into broad, undulating bands of muted gold, weathered olive and earthy brown. A pale glow breaks through the heavy, silvery sky, touching the slopes like the last warmth of the season before winter settles in.

I am drawn to the contrast between the distant hills, almost dissolving into the atmosphere, and the darker, more substantial forms in the foreground.

The land seems to ripple across the frame, its contours stretched into fluid, painterly passages. Light travels over the fields in shifting ribbons, revealing and concealing the terrain as though the hills were breathing beneath a low autumn sky.
