Nowhere to be. Nothing to do. Nobody waiting.

You know that morning. No alarm, no plans, and the dream still has a hand on your shoulder. You're awake, but you're not getting up. You lie there and let it keep you a little longer.

I painted her for that moment.
Her body is pink, tangerine and red, warm like sheets that haven't gone cold yet. One wide stripe of green runs down her side. Her face is half magenta, half blue, as if one side of her is still asleep. Behind her, soft blue flowers glow on a deep indigo background. They are the dream, still hanging around.

I made her soft and round on purpose. For a long time I drew the body the way it is "supposed" to look, and at some point it stopped interesting me. Now I'd rather the figure feel something than be correct. I wanted her to look comfortable.

It's a quiet picture. Nothing in it is in a hurry.
I work in soft oil pastel, layered by hand on thick 250 gsm paper. You can see the grain of the paper through the color, and every stroke stays visible. In morning light the pinks and oranges glow. In the evening the indigo deepens and the flowers seem to float.
Hang her in the bedroom, where she's the first thing you see when you wake up. Or in the corner where you read, or above the chair where you take your coffee slowly. She'll remind you that slow is allowed, and that you don't have to earn your rest.

There is only one. Once she finds her home, she's gone.
