no trains (vi) (2018) Print by Peter Long
24.77 x 32.38cm (unframed) / 13.97 x 16.51cm (actual image size)
£70
Artwork description
November is the worst month for train travellers in a hurry, with many delays and cancellations, often ascribed to 'leaves on the line'. In days of steam-powered trains, trackside trees were cut back for fear of the engine fire leaping into the woods. Giving up such husbandry, today's train companies prefer to adjust running times or cancel trains. Steam engines had enormous wheels and naturally the bigger the wheel the better it rolls. Steam locomotives were surely made for Autumn days in Blighty. Their removal was a backward step.
This print is on a sheet measuring 9¾ x 12¾ inches. The image is 5½ x 6½ inches. I can trim the sheet to your requirement if you would like. The 'Johannot' watermark is in the bottom right corner of each sheet. The black parts of the print were pulled from a relief matrix, the colours were printed by a form of stencilling.
Materials used:
oil-based printing ink, Johannot paper
