I wanted to capture an ordinary yet lively afternoon moment at a city café. Beneath the awnings, people gather, talk, and relax, while the glowing interior contrasts with the darker figures in the foreground. Rather than describing individual faces, I used gestures, shapes, and spatial relationships to convey the warmth and casual rhythm of urban life.
I built the composition with loose, expressive brushwork, simplifying the figures, tables, chairs, and architectural elements into strong shapes. Deep browns and blacks anchor the foreground, while creamy whites, soft yellows, peach, and warm reds suggest the illuminated café interior. The broad awnings provide a strong geometric structure, while spontaneous strokes give the crowd a lively sense of movement.
