“Almost an angel” (2024) Original Mixed-media Painting by Maria Gruzdova

This painting began as an intuitive exploration of color and movement, gradually forming into a figure that feels both present and undefined. I work in layers, allowing earlier marks and textures to remain visible, so the image keeps a sense of openness and change.

There is something uncertain and slightly disoriented in the figure, as if caught between states. The wings suggest lightness, but the pose holds tension and attitude. “Almost an Angel” reflects this feeling of being in between - not fully one thing or another, but free, instinctive, and unapologetically real.
