Muse in Freefall (2025) Original Mixed-media Sculpture by Norman Silva
81.28 x 142.24 x 55.88cm
£4,074.15
Original artwork description
Muse in Freefall explores themes of balance, fragility, and inspiration. It features a smoothly carved wooden plank with flowing curves that resemble a woman's silhouette, symbolizing the muse as both a figure and a spirit. The plank is suspended at an angle by a steel rod attached to a square concrete base, creating a sense of tension as it appears weightless despite its sturdy material.
On top of the form, a concrete cylinder sits on a thin steel rod, half of which is coated in bright yellow, highlighting the round opening at the base, which is painted the same color inside. A strand of fluffy yellow yarn drapes along the upper side of the wood, adding a playful, tactile touch that softens the structural tension.
The interplay of wood, steel, concrete, and fiber embodies the fleeting nature of inspiration: grounded yet ephemeral, falling yet luminous.
