Mossy forest (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Liza Nabokova

146 x 114 x 1.5cm (unframed)

£7,529.22

This is not a portrait of a forest. It's an attempt to paint what you can't see: the air itself. The heavy, damp air after rain, when moss swells with water, bark turns dark and soft, and every breath smells of wet earth, mushrooms and pine resin. The light doesn't fall here, it hangs in the moisture like a fine green mist.

I wanted the viewer to feel the coolness on their skin, to almost hear the silence and catch that smell you only find deep in an old forest. The trees are only the excuse. The real subject is the atmosphere between them.

Thanks to its depth and the receding rows of trunks, the painting visually opens up the wall and makes a room feel larger, like a window onto a forest after rain. It brings breath and calm into any interior.

Original acrylic on canvas, signed. Shipped rolled in a sturdy tube, removed from the stretcher. It will need to be restretched on arrival, which any local framer can do quickly.

About
My paintings belong to women, entirely and without apology, for the male world, with its noise and its self-importance, has always seemed to me too small a stage, too weightless... Read more
