"MOONLIGHT NIGHT" (2019) Original Oil Painting by Marya

The painting evokes a night-time landscape viewed through memory or a dream. The deep blue-violet masses at the top are perceived as the sky or the elements, whilst the lighter lower section resembles a river, a bank, or the reflection of a dim light. The work is imbued with a sense of the slow passage of time, inner stillness and hidden movement beneath the surface. The rough texture renders the space almost tangible — like a layer of earth, water and air all at once. Small patches of light appear as distant lights, stones or fragments of memories, accidentally left behind in the flow.
This painting is done with acrylic and oil paints. The surface of this painting is very textured. I use texture paste and sand to create the texture. All this creates a feeling of vibration on the surface of the painting. The edges are painted and the painting does not need a frame.
