Summer blues for this tranquil island scene.

Back in the studio after an incredible trip to Japan, where I sat at the top of Miyajima Island and sketched the view, I created this etching.

Soft blues describe the still ocean, whilst the nearby islands are a deeper cyan, lightening as they fade into the distance. Small beaches are visible as are gentle swathes of light on the water in the foreground.

Printed on handmade Somerset paper with professional etching ink.

This is a limited edition of only ten, due to the delicate nature of the aquatint.

This etching was created using a zinc plate, aquatint (melting resin dust onto the plate with a flame, to allow the ink to 'grip'), litho crayon, acid and burnishing. The professional etching ink is smeared onto the etched plate and selectively removed. The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of 'Somerset', white paper, on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper.

As a result of the printing process there are slight variations between each print, making each unique.

Image/plate size 39.5 x 16 cm
Paper size 50 x 28.5 cm

Lizzie's work can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further pieces and place commissions.

"I can't rate my recent purchase highly enough. The painting is delightful - its depiction and description both entirely accurate, communication prompt and the painting beautifully wrapped. Every part a pleasure. I highly recommend her." (CO)
