"The first to awaken will be the Fish"...
This etching was inspired by Borges's "The Fauna of Mirrors" from the "Book of Imaginary Beings". The short story describes a legend from the times of the mighty Yellow Emperor, where the world of men and mirror beings were not cut off from each other. Both kingdoms, the Specular and the human, lived in harmony; you could come and go through mirrors. But when the conflict broke between the two worlds, the magic of the Yellow Emperor prevailed and the mirror beings were imprisoned behind the glass and forced to repeat all of the actions of men.
The legend also tells that their dreamlike state will not continue forever, little by little, the mirror beings will be awakened and will brake free from the spell. The first to awaken will be the Fish, a shifting and shining Messenger that nobody had ever caught but that many said they had glimpsed in the depths of mirrors.
The Woman-Warrior is at war with herself. But the Messenger has appeared - pretty soon she will stop being divided and become whole again.
