Original artwork description
Whenever I see this old bottle I think it could have washed up on some shore with a message in it. What do you think of when seeing old bottles that still have sealing wax on them?
Description: A luminous green bottle with 'the message' sticking out from the mouth of the bottle stands against a quiet, neutral background, accompanied by a dip ink pen and a stick of sealing wax resting across the foreground. Together, these simple objects suggest the nearly forgotten ritual of putting pen to paper—writing a message, sealing it, and sending it on its way.
The translucent glass shifts from yellow-green to cooler blue-green as it catches the light, while the warm browns of the label and sealing wax provide a rich counterpoint. A broad blue-gray shadow extends across the background, echoing the bottle’s shape and giving the small composition a surprising sense of drama.
Painted with loose, expressive brushwork and softened edges, Message in a Bottle is both a still life and a small visual story—an invitation to imagine the message that might have been written, and for whom it was intended.
