Memories No. 1 (2026) Original Oil Painting by Alena Sokolova

60.96 x 76.2cm (unframed) / 60.96 x 76.2cm (actual image size)

£1,613.87

Memories No. 1 is an original 24 x 30 inch mixed-media artwork made with cyanotype, oil, and metallic leaf. A magenta tulip opens against a solid gold-leaf circle in the upper right, its petals catching warm, saturated color against the metallic ground. A single green stem drops down the right side of the canvas, curling into a loose loop of leaf at the base. To the left, a pale cyanotype field holds the ghost of an old floral photograph - soft blues and whites layered like a memory that hasn't fully surfaced - interrupted by one deeper rectangle of blue, like a window left slightly darker than the rest.

Hand-painted oil brings the tulip forward in vivid, present color, while the cyanotype and its darker inset hold the rest of the canvas at the remove of memory.

Created in 2026 by Boston-based contemporary artist Alena Sokolova.
