Original artwork description:

A clay cake, decorated with incense, placed in a cake tray with lid. Opening the lid and smelling the exotic fragnance is an experience on its own. Its color has changed the past year, as the incense has left its color on the clay, which can be seen at the photos. This memorial cake, kolyva*, is a game/experiment/project that refers to stories I heard or experienced in my father's village. The religious element was more than strong in his family and I'm impressed that it appears almost like an obsession in my works lately. I have a need to satirize some excesses and discover how they have affected me. Discreetly, as much as possible.

*Kolyva[ is a dish based on boiled wheat that is used liturgically in the Eastern Orthodox Church for commemorations of the dead. In the Eastern Orthodox Church, koliva is blessed during funerals, as well as during the memorial service (mnemosyno) that is performed at various intervals after a person's death and on special occasions, such as the Saturday of Souls. Materials used:

Clay, incense, pearl paint, metallic decoration, foam board, glass
