Meltemi (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Daiva Rožukienė

Meltemi is inspired by the powerful summer winds of the Aegean Sea – a force every sailor remembers.
The painting captures a yacht moving through wind and waves, its warm orange sails glowing against a cooler, atmospheric sky. I wanted to convey not only the movement of the boat, but also that special feeling of sailing when the wind takes control, the sea becomes alive, and all attention is focused on the moment.
The contrast between golden-orange sails, blue-grey clouds and reflections on the water creates a sense of energy, freedom and adventure.
This artwork was inspired by my own memories of sailing in the Aegean Sea. For me, Meltemi is not simply a wind – it is part of the experience of the Greek islands, summer voyages and the feeling of being completely surrounded by sea and sky.
The painting is created with expressive brush and palette knife work, giving the surface rich texture and movement.
