Original artwork description
I am interested in expressions of time and memory in my abstract artworks. Exploring this through my process where layers of texture, drips, colours, welcomed mistakes and the travelling of paint build the story of my paintings. I have learned that life is in a perpetual state of change and evolution, and we are complex individuals constantly referring to older versions of self and memory. The procession of time - cyclical, condensed, elongated, repeated is the motivation, as well as the role of perception, memory and intuition in attempting to shape our understanding of what ultimately remains an elusive hypothesis. I find myself documenting the story of a complex life lived, the scars, the learnings, the conversations and often catastrophic moments of change. My approach to painting combines gestural abstraction with spontaneous automatism, it’s act of letting go and trusting the story telling.
