2022, "Mars Moons" - stone sculpture

This original gneiss sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the talented Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by organic abstractionism, postmodernism and geometry. It is a stunning abstract outer space planets portrait and it's an amazing three dimensional elaborate carving in one solid piece of gneiss rock. The artist's concept is to create an unique elaborate spacial form with the help of extraordinary maze of carvings and details, both in order and disorder and leaving the feeling of vitality and lightness. The planet of Mars has two moons, called Phobos and Deimos. They are among the smallest in the solar system. Like Earth's Moon, Phobos and Deimos always present the same face to their planet. Both are lumpy, heavily-cratered and covered in dust and loose rocks. Both Mars moons are named after the mythological sons of Ares, the Greek counterpart of the Roman god, Mars. Phobos means fear and Deimos means dread. Fitting names for the sons of a war god. The sculpture is one amazing contemporary solid stone masterpiece and exquisite modern home décor.
