Manhattan seems to have decided to play a little joke on the laws of reality. The skyscrapers transform into enormous glowing structures, reflected in the water and evening sky, while flying saucers unexpectedly appear among them — as if extraterrestrials have also decided to admire the famous New York skyline. One of the spacecraft even directs its beam toward a car, turning an ordinary city scene into a small science-fiction story.
The artwork combines the recognizable architecture of Manhattan, the lights of the evening city, and elements of science fiction. This is one of those moments when familiar New York suddenly becomes the setting for an encounter with the unknown. But what if, one evening, a real spacecraft appeared above the city instead of an airplane?
The painting is part of the “The Unexplained Is Nearby” series, from the larger cycle “When Worlds Collide.” In this series, ordinary everyday life meets the impossible: familiar cities, people, and objects find themselves in situations that simply should not exist. The fantastical element does not appear somewhere in a distant universe — it is literally right nearby: above your head, outside the window, or in the middle of an ordinary cityscape.
“Manhattan Evening” invites the viewer to look at the familiar world a little more carefully. Perhaps UFOs have been flying over New York for years. Maybe Manhattan residents are simply too busy with their everyday lives to notice.

About artist:
BAST creates artworks in a decorative style, likes to experiment with materials: mosaics, precious stones, glass, paints, texture, etc.
Irina became a laureate of the Recycling Art competition and presented her project at the large citywide festival ARTification.
The artist participated in 23 exhibitions in the USA, Canada, Russia, China and Europe.
In addition, Irina was awarded the diplomas "Best Works of 2016", "Best Works of 2019", a special diploma for creativity (International Association VATIKAM, France, Paris) and has a letter of thanks from the Luxembourg Art Prize.
