Madonna Roselily (on Vert De Gris)

This piece depicts a large scale close up of a Madonna Roselily, a delicate, sculptural and almost geometric form. The white flower sits on a deep green surround, creating a freshness and subtle warmth to the petals.

This pieces completes my white on vert de gris triptych, alongside White Dahlia and White Camellia.

I've been exploring the hypnotic, geometric forms of some of the local flora I've found, and the feelings they can evoke. When I'm working on studies for these pieces, I often notice more shapes and patterns emerging in the folds and movements of the petals or leaves, and I like to let these evolve through my process.

This painting contains just 4 pigments, creating a cohesive and calm tonality to the overall piece. The layers of soft white glazes have built up with a delicate feel, recreating the texture of the fragile petals.
The canvas is 4cm deep with painted edges, designed to be hung and displayed unframed.
