Madame Claude (2024) Original Oil Painting by Sal Jones
23 x 23 x 4cm (framed) / 20 x 20cm (actual image size)
£350
Original artwork description
The subject is Karole Rocher as Fernande Grudet in the 2021 biopic Madame Claude. Fernande Grudet was an infamous French brothel keeper in the sixties; the head of a French network of call girls who worked especially for dignitaries and civil servants.
I work from photographs and found images, inspired and influenced by film and cinematography. My subjects are mostly women (often fictional or notorious). Some recent paintings have been on the theme of biopics and the act of becoming someone else (someone who really existed) the act of painting the portrayal adds another layer of fictionalised truth.
Materials used:
oil paint
