A heap of lemons, packed tight, each one glowing from within. This work began with light, specifically the way yellow holds it differently from any other colour, warm and luminous, almost edible.
Painted in oils, the forms are built up in layers of amber, gold, and soft ochre, with bursts of pure yellow where the light hits hardest. The dark shadows between the fruit give depth and drama, stopping this from being simply cheerful and making it something ethereal.
The aim was to take something utterly ordinary and make it impossible to look away from.
