Leaden Sky (2024) Original Mixed-media Painting by franco orsi

This 21x28 cm oil on paper artwork, titled "cielo plumbeo" (Leaden Sky), evokes a powerful sense of atmospheric tension through fluid watercolor-like washes and sharp, energetic calligraphic markings. The upper half of the composition is dominated by a heavy, stormy sky rendered in sweeping washes of charcoal and slate grey. This dark atmosphere heavily contrasts with a dynamic central horizon line where intense bursts of fiery orange, deep red, and golden ochre puncture the gloom. In the foreground, fine linear scratches and sharp white sgraffito lines simulate frozen thickets or wild reeds slicing through thin patches of snow and water, creating a beautifully balanced expressionistic landscape that feels both chilly and intensely alive.
