The title "Le tableau sans fin" - The endless picture - is a hint at Brancusi to point the sculptural aspect of this particular painting: its lightly round edges that emphasise the way the painted surface carries on by the sides to the back of the frame like if it was a sheer material a plan of marble of some sorts - the visible independent thread of tapestry nails looking like an added ornament, and of course the surface itself smooth and yet barred by marks, subtle scarifications, mild bruising suggesting an epiderm, layers... In spite of this sculptural aspect that gives it a special presence, the painting still offers an illusionist pictural space aspect where things are dwelling in diferents levels of depth and yet it is abstract, beyond definition.
