Last Year’s Heather (2022) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

This image can be described as a still life with plants. I took the dried heather out of its pots and found it so picturesque that I decided to paint it as a study from life. I painted the plant directly over the imprimatura.

There is something slightly melancholic about the work, as the heather has already died, but its autumnal, warm colors create a pleasant and decorative composition.

The edges of the canvas are painted brown. The work is painted on a square canvas stretched on a square stretcher.
