Katagami Courier (2025) Original Mixed-media Painting by Victor Selin

60.96 x 81.28 x 5.08cm (framed)

£596.7

Katagami Courier is a 22 by 28 inch gold leaf artwork. It reads like a visual message carried across cultures, translated through pattern rather than language.

Large fan shaped leaves open across the center, surrounded by vertical panels of dense marks, floral structures, geometric fragments, and abstract ornament. Some areas feel precise and architectural. Others feel organic, branching, and alive. The black ground creates deep negative space, allowing the gold leaf to shift between plant, textile, script, and illuminated surface.

The title references katagami and the structural logic of stencil cut patterning, but the work is a fusion rather than a reproduction. Botanical forms, textile rhythm, manuscript like blocks, ornamental systems, and invented mark making gather into one gold on black composition. The motifs do not belong to one place or one tradition. They travel, mutate, and reassemble into something new.

A one of a kind original. 22 by 28 inches. Gold leaf on black ground.

For the collector who understands pattern as a living language.
