A stick that could be a flag, a spear, or a shepherdess's crook, and no way to know which: JJoan of Arc, from the Mystiques series, gives a free interpretation of Saint Joan of Arc, holding onto an object whose meaning stays as unresolved as her own legend.
She wears a large coat in horizon blue, the same colour worn by French soldiers during the First World War, a five-century leap that collapses two different wars into a single figure without explaining how. Nothing here confirms whether she's a warrior, a shepherdess, or a soldier out of time, and the series leaves her that way on purpose, caught before any single version of her story wins.
What remains is a young woman holding an ambiguous object with total conviction, certainty in the grip, uncertainty in everything the object might actually be.
